Snap, crackle, pop -- literally. The house across the street burst into flames as I came home after my Friday night shift at work. This picture was taken about two minutes after I placed the 911 call to report the fire. I picked an angle, framed the shot, and let the auto features of the camera do the rest. It balanced pretty well, I think.

Minimal retouching to widen the shot to 4 x 6.

I like it, how the flames curl around the edge of the roof.

Let's hope nobody was injured

Nice shot. Shame about the house though. I hope everyone made it out safe.

The house was empty, fortunately!

nice shot, hope everyone was ok. Its an element that isn't captured too often

Thanks very much! It was a (thankfully) rare opportunity.

Thankfully the house was empty at the time and nobody was hurt. I did feel ironically fortunate to be in the right place at the right time for the 911 call and for the shot. It was a guilty pleasure. ;-)

Some lady actually tried to get in under the assumption that the owner was sleeping inside, but then the owner showed up saying "I'm right here, it's my house," so they all left and let the fire department do their thing.
:iconat-a-loss:
"is that all there is?" this reminds me of that old miss peggy lee song.

how crazy that you were the one making the call. Of course, I would worry about the chance of people/animals inside, but man, the urge to record something so emotional as a house fire would be overwhelming. Glad you got it before the fire department showed up.
:icondevvyn:
Oddly, as dramatic as it looks, there was no emotion in it. I somehow instinctively knew it was just a burning house. Great photo op, and I'm really glad I could take pictures relatively guilt-free. An example of "right place at the right time," a photographer's serendipity.
